Support cornflowerblue

styling kids, helping people, protecting the planet

For the month of September 2010 we will be supporting World Visions response to the Pakistani Floods. 12 million people have been impacted from this disaster - more than any other disaster in recent times. The people of Pakistan are in need to clear water, food and temporary shelter. We hope to raise lots for this worthwhile cause.

At cornflowerblue we feel very lucky to be able to give back to people in need. We would like to share the joy with you by donating $1 from the sale of each and every product we sell – no matter its value – to our charity initiatives.

All our charity initiatives come under the banner of the cornflowerblue foundation. We use the $1 donated from the sale of our products to set up and run a series of projects on the ground in Mumbai. We can’t be directly involved in all the things we feel passionate about, so we also financially support a number of other projects in India and Australia.

Our initiatives give us and our customers the opportunity to give something back to the environment and the people of Australasia who make most of the garments we wear everyday.

• blueflower RECYCLING – striving for zero landfill for our fashion products.
• blueflower NEWSKILL - giving people the skills to be self-sufficient.
• blueflower HELP – giving people food and shelter.
• blueflower SAVE THE PLANET – giving organic farms the funds and skills they need to farm organically.

blueflower RECYCLING – striving for zero landfill for our fashion products.

Did you know that each garment of clothing is usually shipped around the world individually wrapped in a polyurethene plastic bag. Think about how many bags this must be! We ship our clothes 12 items per bag to reduce the number of bags used.
We would love you to give back the garments after your children have finished loving them. cornflowerblue foundation will take back all garments and give them to street children in Mumbai. If you would like to give back your garments click here for the details.

blueflower NEWSKILL - giving people the skills to be self-sufficient.

We believe the best way to break the cycle of poverty is to give underprivileged people the skills they need to succeed in this world. With this in mind we have established three programs that give people a new skill, allowing them to support themselves and their families.

English Program
cornflowerblue is supporting the ‘English for Everyone’ Program that has been written by our Founder – Sarah Drysdale. English for Everyone is an English language program for children where English is their second or third language. The program consists of three levels each taking one year to complete. The  program is being rolled out in all Mumbai Mobile Creche Centres and other NGO’s are considering it for implementation. The funds received from cornflowerblue help with the production of the materials and the expansion of the program to other NGOs. If you would like to find out more about implementing this program please contact us.

Sewing
cornflowerblue has created a new label called Foundation of Love. This collection is made by disadvantaged tailors and seamstresses in Mumbai. We believe in paying people 'living wages'. We pay above the market rate for their tailoring services so they begin to earn enough money to support their families. Look out for our gift wrapping bags that are made under this initiative. This label has been launched in Mumbai at the end of November. The collection will be available at the end of January and then hopefully it will be available on cornflowerblue.com mid next year.

Beauty Course
cornflowerblue is supporting the training of slum women to be beauticians at Ashudeep Community Centre in Mahim. This three-month program teaches all aspects of beauty therapy. These women are securing fabulous jobs after the completion of the course. A cornflowerblue team member, Mary, is the course instructor. A disadvantaged women herself, she loves this opportunity to give back to her community. We love seeing people within their own community caring for others.

blueflower HELP – giving people food and shelter.

Sometimes people just need help with the basic things in life. cornflowerblue uses the funds set aside from the sale of our clothes to help feed street people in Mumbai. Every week the cornflowerblue team in India puts together bags of healthy, nutritious food and distributes them to the people on the street in our area.

We have also decided to support TenderHands Inc, a shelter for street children. We sponsor two of the twenty four children currently living in the shelter. TenderHands is a fabulous organisation that removes children from a dangerous life on the street or in brothels and promises them a safe environment until they reach adulthood. We salute Bernie and Bennet who founded this caring and nurturing organisation.

Foodbank Australia is a marvelous NGO in Australia that has a wonderful mission – An Australia Without Hunger. Foodbank in Australia is a not-for-profit, non-denominational organisation that seeks and distributes food and grocery industry donations to welfare agencies that feed the hungry.

blueflower SAVE THE PLANET – giving organic farms the funds and skills they need to farm organically.

We believe all garments should be manufactured using organic cotton. For this dream to become a reality farming communities in India and across the globe need to be re-educated. We need all cotton farmers to embrace organic practices so there is no other option but to make clothes using organic fabric. We have chosen to support Morarka Foundation. This foundation works with farmers in India to develop organic farming practices.

blueflower HELPING AUSSIE KIDS

We love to support Aussie kids - of course! At cornflowerblue we are supporting two initiatives that help sick kids and their families.

Humpty Dumpty Foundation
The first is the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. We are helping support a team of women (our customers) to complete the Humpty Hike which sees women climb to the top of Mount Kosciusko to raise funds. The Humpty Dumpty Foundation ensures that children have access to adequate health care equipment in government hospitals.

Teddy Love Club
Teddy Love Club Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support is an Australia wide support program for bereaved parents who suffer the loss of their baby or babies to miscarriage, stillbirth, termination of pregnancy for foetal abnormality and neonatal death. cornflowerblue is donating prizes to their upcoming charity fundraising event and will offer continued financial support for this important work.
